The real difference between the iPhone camera and the expensive digital camera is their social media abilities. One can post to Facebook, Instagram, etc. The other can’t transfer any social media.
The one digital camera I have that has WiFi will transfer your pictures to a iOS or Android device and then you can put it up on Facebook, etc. And the software that gets the picture to your tablet or iPhone is weird and at times down right frustrating. So in effect I rarely use it.
In the film era most of the prints made were 4X6 from Thrifty and Sav-On drugs stores. Today if 4x6s are needed they just transfer the image to any of several online merchants who will print and ship the prints back to you.
But really it’s SOCIAL media or nothing.
So why the expensive digital camera if all you do is transfer to one of several media sites? I have no idea.
PS: I make prints. Big prints. Bigger than anything I did in the film era. And I love it. If I do post a picture online it’s to my blogs or to flickr.
And the digital camera? They’re better than any film camera ever was. Including Leica. But they’re still just a camera.
